Day 1 - Chiang Mai city
Your trip starts with a day in Chiang Mai city. Today, we explore the old city of Chiang Mai with its numerous temples and bustling markets. Your guide for the trip is Samart (Joe), owner of Next Step Thailand. He’s an experienced guide with a lot of knowledge about Chiang Mai city and Chiang Mai province so feel free to ask him anything.
What you see today: Silver temple (Wat Srisuphan), Wat Chedi Luang where you chat with a monk and have a chance to ask him about his life in the temple and about Buddhism in Thailand. We also explore a big local market and eat local specialties for lunch. In the afternoon, we drive to Doi Suthep mountain where we visit the Doi Suthep temple, enjoy the views of Chiang Mai city and see the monks at their evening prayer. For dinner, we sample even more local dishes and you spend the night as a guest of your guide.
Day 2 - Doi Inthanon & Pa Bong Piang
On the second day of our adventure in Chiang Mai province, we drive to the countryside. Our first stop is Mae Ya waterfall in Doi Inthanon national park. This is one of the most spectacular waterfalls in northern Thailand. From here, it’s an off road bumpy JEEP ride through the countryside. On the way, we visit tratidional Karen tribe and Hmong tribe villages and have a lunch break near the park’s headquarters.
After lunch, we drive to the highest point in thailand, the peak of Doi Inthanon and enjoy the cool temperatures at high altitudes. We hike for about 30 minutes on a trail through mossy forest and then drive down the mountain and stop at the King and Queen pagodas along the way.
Today, we have a northern style dinner and spend the night in a wooden bungalow in a charming village called Pa Bong Piang. Here, you see the most beautiful rice paddies in Thailand and the best part is that most travelers don’t even know they exist!
Day 3 - Mae Chaem & Mae Klang Luang
Today, we wake up to some of the most beautiful views in Thailand and enjoy a delicious breakfast amidst this wonderful scenery. We hike in the rice paddies and then drive to a sleepy mountain town Mae Chaem which is your guide’s home town. Here, we see more rice paddies and visit a mineral spring where we have a healing bath. Then we head back to Doi Inthanon national park and go on a two hour hike to Mae Klang Luang village. We have lunch in the jungle and stop at a jungle waterfall during the trek.
Mae Klang Luang is a Karen tribe village surrounded by rice paddies and coffee plantations. We have dinner and spend the night as guests in this village.
Day 4 - Tribal culture
Today, we learn about Karen tribe culture as we explore a local village and learn about the life of this community. We also visit village school and spend some time there teaching English and playing with children. We have lunch at a waterfall and in the afternoon a Karen weaving crash course. You learn how to weave a basic tribal pattern on a wooden loom.
In the evening, you have a proper northern Thai cooking class and a unique chance to learn how to cook some local delicacies. After dinner, you spend the night in a simple wooden bungalow at Spicy Villa Eco-Lodges.
Day 5 - Adventure time!
On the last day of our exploration of Chiang Mai province, it’s time for some adventure! Right after breakfast, we visit a local elephant camp where we feed the elephants, learn about their life and habits and how to communicate with them. We also take them to the river and give them a bath which is their favourite activity. We return to Spicy Villa and have some free time before lunch.
After lunch, we drive to the river and prepare bamboo rafts for some relaxed bamboo rafting down the river. Afterwards, we can do two more quick-paced activities – canoeing and river tubing. All activities might not be possible. This depends on the time of the year we organise this tour and on the water level at the time. Bamboo rafting is possible all year.
In the afternoon, we return to Chiang Mai city and you’re welcome to spend another night with your guide if you’d like to stay a bit longer in Chiang Mai.

The giveaway is open to every nationality, and is void where prohibited by law. Employees of Next Step Thailand, its affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising and promotion agencies, and suppliers, (collectively the “Employees”), and immediate family members and/or those living in the same household of Employees are not eligible to participate in the giveaway. The giveaway is subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited.
2. Agreement to Rules: By participating, the contestant (“You”) agree to be fully unconditionally bound by these terms and conditions, and You represent and warrant that You meet the eligibility requirements. In addition, You agree to accept the decisions o Next step Thailand as final and binding as it relates to the content of this giveaway.
3. Campaign Period: Entries will be accepted online starting on 24th September 2016 and ending on 15th October 2016. All online entries must be received by 15th October 2016, 12 PM, Bangkok time.
4. How to Enter: The giveaway must be entered by liking our facebook page and sharing the giveaway post. The entry must fulfill all giveaway requirements, as specified, to be eligible to win a prize. Entries that are incomplete or do not adhere to the rules or specifications may be disqualified at the sole discretion of Next Step Thailand. You may enter only once. You may not enter more times than indicated by using multiple email addresses, identities, or devices in an attempt to circumvent the rules. 5. Prizes: The winner of the giveaway (the “Winner”) will receive a free fi-ve day trip in Chiang Mai province as described above. Actual value may differ at time of prize award. The specifics of the prize shall be solely determined by Next Step Thailand. No cash or other prize substitution shall be permitted. The prize is nontransferable. Any and all prize-related expenses, including without limitation any and all federal, state, and/or local taxes, shall be the sole responsibility of Winner. No substitution of prize or transfer/assignment of prize to others or request for the cash equivalent by Winner is permitted. Acceptance of prize constitutes permission for Next Step Thailand to use Winner’s name, likeness, and entry for purposes of advertising and trade without further compensation, unless prohibited by law.
6. Odds: The odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
7. Winner Selection and Notification: Winner will be selected by a random draw under the supervision of Next Step Thailand. Winner will be notified by Facebook message within five (5) days following selection of Winner. Next Step Thailand shall have no liability for Winner’s failure to receive notices or for Winner’s provision of incorrect or otherwise non-functioning contact information. If Winner cannot be contacted, is ineligible, fails to claim the prize within 10 days from the time award notification was sent, or fails to use the prize within 365 days from the time the prize was claimed, the prize may be forfeited and an alternate Winner selected.
