Spicy Villa Eco Lodges

Guests who book multiple-day tours to Mae Wang area (Lanna adventures, Lanna lover and Elephant experience for instance) will spend at least one night at Spicy Villa Eco Lodges.

Spicy Villa Eco Lodges are run by Next Step Thailand and were built with our core values in mind. This is environmentally friendly accommodation where local villagers work in good conditions and for fair pay therefore bringing money into local communities where it’s needed. We also have an organic farm on the premises and raise pigs and chickens. Spicy Villa is also the base for our community projects.

We have a number of very simple hand-built wooden bungalows for our guests. Location is remote and the bungalows are perched on a hillside overlooking rice paddies, local elephant camp and rain forest in the backdrop. This is a beautiful place for nature lovers to stay.

Guests staying at Spicy Villa will spend the night in clean and basic bungalows with king-sized bed and a private bathroom. Blankets and mosquito nets are provided for guests, but you should bring your own towels and torch lights.

Locally run guest houses

Guests who spend a nigh in larger cities such as Ayutthaya, Chiang Mai or Chiang Rai while on a tour with us, sleep in guest houses that share our core values which means that the owners are local and that they run their guest houses in environmentally and socially responsible way. We select accommodation partners that employ locals, treat and pay them fairly and prefer those who run projects to improve local environments and communities.

All accommodation is basic and clean and guests stay in private rooms with private bathrooms. Most bathrooms have hot water.

Staying with hill tribe families

Guests who spend the night in local villages get to experience how hill tribe people live and gain a better insight into their culture and habits. The houses you stay in are actual homes of tribal families and in no way altered to offer more comfort to visitors. You sleep exactly like a tribal villager.

Hill tribe families are very modest and can be a bit shy around visitors, so don’t get offended if they don’t come to meet and greet you on arrival. Your guide will introduce you to family members who will generously open their home to you and if you are genuinely interested in spending time with them and learning from them, they will open up and show you how kind and genuine people they are.

Houses of hill tribe people are very basic, but kept clean and welcoming. Some villagers use beds to sleep in, but most are used to sleeping on a Thai mattress or even directly on the floor on a thin blanket. In most houses you will have a mattress on the floor, you will not sleep on the floor directly and in some houses you will even get a bed.

Bathrooms in most cases are outside of the house and they are shared with the family. Some houses don’t have running water and you will use a water bucket. Most of the houses only have cold water.

Do bring a torch light for walking around at dusk and dawn.

You will get plenty of blankets and on request your guide will fetch more and you will also have a mosquito net.
