Trip SummaryKaren Wedding

Day 1 – We pick you up in Chiang Mai in the morning and drive to the countryside. Our first top is a local market where we buy all the supplies. From there we drive on to a local elephant camp.

The bride waits in the bush while the groom comes to meet her, riding an elephant. He proposes her, and when she accepts, they ride the elephant together down to river, where they enjoy bathing and riding back to elephant camp.

After the proposal we drive to the local Karen village to stay overnight with host families. The couple spends the night in two separate houses. This evening the bride ad groom learn about the culture and customs of a traditional Karen wedding ceremony. And we go through the traditional wedding festivities that will take place tomorrow.

Day 2 – In the morning you prepare for the traditional wedding ceremony. Your host helps you to get dressed in traditional Karen wedding clothing. Then the bride’s parade starts from the hosts’ home through the village.

The main ceremony takes place at groom’s house where you exchange the traditional elephant hair rings. Throughout the day locals from nearby villages visit you to give you their blessings and gifts.

In the afternoon, the bride and groom have a few hours to rest and relax before the final traditional wedding ceremony that takes place in the evening. During this time the bride changes dress in the traditional way, symbolizing that she is now married. More blessings follow and the couple shares a meal with the villagers. Children from the village sing and dance for the newlyweds.

We drive to Spicy Villa Eco-Lodges where you spend a night in a honeymoon bungalow.

Day 3 – After breakfast we drive back to Chiang Mai.
